Absences and illness meant that the Bury second team was bolstered by third team players when they visited Worsley. Fortunately everyone aquitted themselves well! With Bernard Sharples held to a draw on top board, a series of solid draws by Steven Press, Brian Forrest and Sidney Forrester kept the match in balance. An excellent win by Andy Medcalf, playing his first game of the season, then put Bury ahead, leaving Lee Baron and Roger Nuttall in difficult endings. Although Roger went down in a pawn ending, hopes were still high as Lee, in a knight and pawn ending with chances for both sides, tried to queen pawns on opposite sdes of the board. His opponent held on to draw, and the match also finished level.
