Bury Chess Club
In their last match of 2008, the Bury 3rd team seem finally to have got to
grips with the unfamiliar five-board format with a victory after
managing only draws in their other matches. Playing away at Didsbury they
survived a fluctuating contest. An unusual early loss for Steven Press put
Bury on the back foot, but Roger Nuttall maintained his winning form to level
the scores. Lee Baron then put Bury in front with a convincing win, but the
match was level again when Brian Forrest made a fatal slip after dominating the
early play. Sydney Forrester came up trumps, however, with the decisive
win to secure the points for Bury.
