At last the Bury first team has won a match! A visit to Urmston 2nd provided the spur. Perhaps after fighting  past the Christmas queues for the Trafford Centre the team were in no mood to fail!

Bernard Sharples seized on an early mistake by his opponent and cruised to a win, and a draw on board two for Anthony Lee was followed by a crushing win by Roy Wild. Then Keith Evans drew, to put Bury firmly in the driving seat. An Urmston fightback began when John Grindrod lost his way, and his game, and Mick Norris and Jim Litherland found themselves in difficult endgames. Jim won nicely, however, and Mick accepted a draw in a good position to give Bury a welcome victory and two points.
