Bury Chess Club
Bury's third team fell at the first hurdle in the Hartley Cup. Jeremy
Peach, not feeling his best, was the first to capitulate after just thirteen
moves, and in his first club match 15 year old Raphael Adler discovered the
importance of an extra pawn, which his opponent exploited to the full. The
dependable Roger Nuttall again won a decisive endgame to put Bury back into
contention, but Steven Press had to settle for a draw against the under 12
English Girls Champion, Isobel Cotogni. Then, to compound Bury's misery, Lee
Baron's endgame unravelled to his disadvantage, and that was the end of a cup
run!
